What people are saying about improv with Caitlin:

“When I took improv classes with you it really helped me get out of my head and I’d always leave class feeling more confident and grounded. So much fun and good for the brain!”

- Kelsey M.

“Caitlin Steitzer’s class was a game-changer. Her grounded, thoughtful teaching style and live feedback helped me stay true to my characters, and her focus on “yes anding yourself” completely shifted how I approach improv. Caitlin is the real deal — I’m already looking forward to learning from her again.”

- Anthony M.

“I recently took an amazing workshop with Caitlin…. Sometimes I really get in my head during an improv scene and this workshop gave practical tips on how to unwind a bit. We did exercises with emotion and even a scene with the lights out, which helped us stay connected to our scene partner and stay out of our heads, which at the end of the day is what improv is all about!”

- Adam G.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE ACTING OR IMPROV EXPERIENCE? CAN I SIGN UP?

YES! There is no theater or improv or comedy experience required at all! This workshop uses improv and theater games as a tool to help with anxiety. That might sound counterintuitive to some of us, but improv was actually first invented to help foster trust and connection between people. (Look up VIOLA SPOLIN and the WPA)

WHAT IF I DO HAVE ACTING OR IMPROV EXPERIENCE? CAN I STILL SIGN UP?

TOTALLY! Many performers experience social anxiety as well! You might just find that some of what you learn in this workshop will help you as a performer too.

SO.... WHY IMPROV EXACTLY?

Chicago-based psychologist and anxiety specialist David Carbonell makes the argument that “social anxiety is all about inhibition and self-censorship” and that’s exactly what improv helps flip around. An improv mindset can help people trust themselves more, be less critical of self and others, be more open to new people and experiences, and feel more comfortable speaking up and being spontaneous. IS THIS A THERAPY GROUP?

NO, this is a psycho-educational workshop for educational purposes only.

IS THIS AN IMPROV COMEDY CLASS?

NO, this is a psycho-educational workshop. You will definitely learn some skills that can translate into performance, but the focus is on alleviating anxiety.
